Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Timeline
First Session
During the initial introductory session(s), you and your therapist will explore your goals and discuss the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy process to decide if KAP is the right treatment for you at this time.
Medication Assessment
In order to determine if you are eligible for KAP, you will be referred to a medical provider for an initial evaluation to review your medical and psychiatric history and provide education on the treatment. Once cleared, you will receive a personalized ketamine tablet prescription for a series of dosing sessions.
Preparation Sessions
The goal of preparation session(s) is to review the KAP protocol, answer questions, determine number of prep sessions needed, and set an intention for your dosing session.
Dosing Session
A typical ketamine dosing session lasts between 1 ½ -3 hours and can take place either in-person or online. During your ketamine journey, you will be in a comfortable, reclined position, wearing an eye mask, and listening to calm music. Although a KAP dosing session is largely an internal experience, your therapist will provide support as needed.
Self-Led Preparation Sessions
After a series of therapist-guided dosing sessions, you and your therapist may decide it is appropriate for you to engage in self-led KAP (chaperone required) from home. Your therapist will conduct a brief call to ensure you are appropriately prepared. The chaperone will then provide the therapist with end-of-session information pertaining to the completion of the protocol. (Please note self-led sessions may not be recommended due to safety issues per therapist or medical provider’s assessment.)
Integration Session(s)
After a KAP dosing session, you will meet with your therapist to review the memories, thoughts & insights that arose during your dosing session and create a plan for lasting change.
Medical Re-Assessment
After a series of KAP dosing sessions, you will schedule a follow-up appointment with the medical provider to monitor your outcome and prescribe the remaining ketamine tablet refills, as appropriate.
